AMMONIUM FORMATE (AR/GR/EP/LR), NH4HCO2, is the ammonium salt of formic acid. It is a colorless, hygroscopic, crystalline solid.
Specifications
- Decomposes into formamide and water when heated, primary industrial use.
- Used to obtain formic acid by reaction with dilute acids.
- Can serve as a storage form for formic acid.
- Used in palladium on carbon (Pd/C) reduction of functional groups.
- Used for reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones (Leuckart reaction).
- Used as a buffer in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and compatible with LC/MS.
- AR/GR grade is used as a laboratory reagent.
